ON-LINE LAUNCH @LADA
On Saturday 3rd September, join us for the online launch of Manuel Vason’s Unframing Photography: Performing the Image to See Otherwise, co-published by LADA and comprising a culmination of the titular multifaceted project.
Manuel will talk about the book and the Unframing Photography project and present excerpts and images. Alessandro Simari, the editor of the book, and Mick Williamson, one of the contributing artists, will offer their insights and discuss with Manuel before engaging in a Q&A with the audience.
6pm Book Launch and discussion
The Unframing Photography project is a collaborative endeavour questioning the power and influence of photography in our life.
It was initiated by the urgency to reconsider the medium of photography as a technology of visuality and its frame as an ideological dispositive of control that distances subjects, sustains an attitude of superiority and enforces an absolute perspective.
Sparked from a collaboration with 10 lens-based artists living in Folkestone (UK), the project developed into a series of public interventions, a number of large sculptures, an exhibition, a video documentary, a book published by the Live Art Development Agency and an ongoing debate.
